Pumping and cleaning of sewerage networks

Pumping and cleaning of sewerage networks

Common causes of sewer pipe problems

While some sewer line problems are avoidable, others are simply unavoidable. Some of the most common causes of sewer line problems include:

  • Damage to sewer pipes caused by tree root growth
  • Objects lodged in the sewer line
  • Deterioration of the sewer line over time
  • Accumulation obstructing the main sewer line
  • Extreme hot and cold temperature changes
  • Ground movement, causing misalignment, buckling or breakage of the sewer pipe

Sewer system pumping and cleaning removes unwanted materials, such as non-biodegradable debris or grease and sludge build-up, from a pipe. Most sewer cleaning occurs as part of a routine maintenance program, although cleaners also respond to emergency calls for overflowing or damaged pipes.
